While reading an NBA article on the Game 4 loss of the Spurs to the Lakers, the author mentioned how the Spurs would always read their team motto before every game. The team motto is a quote from the 19th century social reformer Jacob Riis and it says:
“When nothing seems to help, I go look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.”
Having this mentality is what has made the Spurs one of the best teams in the league (they have won three championships in the last five years). The same can be said for blogging. In the short but substantial time I have been blogging and continuously learning from the top bloggers, I noticed that consistency is a key factor if you want your blog to succeed. Many other things will come into play (knowledge of the topic, style of writing, savviness in marketing and networking, etc.) and it can be a combination of one or more of these factors. But if there’s one thing that should never be taken out of the equation, it’s consistency.
I’m saying this to myself (I’m really serious about breaking old habits) and to anyone who is new to blogging or just can’t seem to get the hang of continuously updating your blog. If that ever happens again (and it certainly will), think of the stonecutter. And then hammer away to your next post.

Hi Jonas, nice blog here.
I’ll “blogroll” you in my site.
Thanks so much Penstalker (btw, cool name and nice blog)!
I seriously blog now just to DE-stress. Helps a lot.
HI,
I found your blog through Yuga Tech. With this post, I remember the film Remember the Titans starring Denzel Washington. It’s all about motivation which we need to be consistent.
I think that the main reason why one should blog is because of the passion that he feels inside his heart, and the sincerity to share his readers valuable contents.
Then, money will follow whether you like it or not. Thanks and congrats for new found job. Keep it up!
@Ely – Thanks for dropping by! Blogging to de-stress, I think that’s something new and certainly worth pursuing. Tell us more about it..
@guardian angel – Thanks for sharing that. I absolutely agree that passion should be a driving force in blogging. I guess that’s why top bloggers succeed in different areas of specialization, because they blog about what they’re most passionate about. Many thanks also for the congratulations.
Very insightful. Consistency can be a daunting word for someone like me who desires to start a blog but lacks the courage to do so
