Three Billionth Photo Uploaded in Flickr

The hooray and hoopla goes out to Flickr user Garret Ryan Smith who uploaded a black & white photo of a door - the 3 billionth photo in Flickr.  The image is simple and yet meaningful take on a supposedly random object we all see everyday.

Michael Arrington pointed out in TechCrunch that Flickr is “well behind Facebook, with 10 billion.  And they’re falling further behind - a year ago Facebook had just 4.1 billion photos.”  However, if you look at the community and the quality of photos uploaded, obviously Flickr is more of a niched repository for photo-enthusiasts to share their works while Facebook is kinda like a photo album for many users who just wish to show to their connections their personal photos.

I’ve been so lazy uploading my pics in Flickr that this serves as a reminder that I should take time to do it regularly.  The 3 billionth photo could have been my pic.  Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to wait for next billion.
